Accurate, virtual, 3d models
Get 3D, as-built data for more precise and efficient construction and maintenance planning.
Tronnes has been creating digital 3D models (often called Revit models / building information models (BIMs) / “digital twins”) since 2012. We actively invest in the latest technology and software to ensure the best end-product for our clients.
Using LiDAR (or laser scanning) technology, millions of data points are collected and converted into a highly accurate, 3-dimensional, digital model – providing virtual access to real-life information. These models create a precise foundation upon which all kinds of notes and structural information can be added, such as:
- Building structure measurements
- Systems like plumbing, HVAC, electrical
- Mechanical structures like dams, power substations, asphalt plants
- Rail lines, bridges, tunnels (clearance modelling)
- Other details (e.g., details on construction materials, wiring and electrical currents, etc.)
You can even take it a step beyond 3D models by adding photogrammetry – mapping actual photographs of your asset onto the point cloud model to get the added visual detail. Visit our photogrammetry and laser scanning page to learn more.
Why 3D Modelling
Efficiency
Reduce down-time on vital systems and reduce man hours with a virtual copy
Achieve better timeline management, detect clashes, and avoid errors with easy access to as-built data
Risk Management
Virtually navigate through spaces that are hazardous or difficult to access
Avoid safety requirements and other access management issues
Accuracy
Get as-built information instead of relying on drawings that may not be true to life
Laser scan data can be accurate to the millimetre so you can proceed with certainty
3d model Use Cases
Given the efficiency and high level of detail of laser scanning, 3D models are quickly becoming a key asset for all kinds of architecture, engineering, and construction projects.
Access to an intelligent, 3D model with as-built data can help you with
- Planning and designing additions, improvements / upgrades
- Quality control / assurance
- Maintenance forecasting and planning
- Record keeping
Deliverables
- Building information model (BIM) / Revit model containing important meta data
- Data hosting for the 3D model if needed
- Ability to export all kinds of additional deliverables from this dataset – from PDF plans to AutoCAD
Client Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between a Revit 3D model and a point cloud?
A point cloud is just a “picture” of a bunch of data points – “dumb” dots making a picture that is only useful for visual interpretation. For example, you’d see an image containing what appears to be various pipes.
A Revit model converts this data into actual meaningful information with additional metadata. For example, the same pipes from the above example can have extra information assigned, like material, thickness, diameter, flow rate, installation date, manufacturer, etc.
How long does it take to create a 3D model?
Turnaround times always depend on the size of the project. However, we do everything we can to meet your timelines.
Laser scanning itself can often be fairly quick, so in terms of collecting the data, you can be assured any down time will be as minimal as possible. We can always scan during off-times as well (e.g., at night) for the smallest disruption to regular operations.
The more time consuming part can be processing the data – there are millions of data points that need to be collected and turned into a meaningful and practical end-product.
We’ll be able to provide a more accurate estimate after we know the details of your project.
